Remote | DFW-based | Project-based assignments
Love researching local spots and helping families find things to do? City Mom Media is looking for writers based in Dallas–Fort Worth to create helpful, well-researched articles and resources for families.
We’re especially interested in writers who enjoy researching, digging into the details, and can turn their research into clear, engaging content parents can actually use.
This is a freelance, project-based opportunity. Assignments are offered as needs arise, with no guaranteed number of projects or assignments each month.
About City Mom Media
City Mom Media is a collection of local parenting publications created for families, by moms who know their communities. We share things to do, places to go, helpful resources, and stories that make parents feel a little less alone. Through our guides, directories, and advertising partnerships, we help businesses connect with the families they serve. We’re here to make family life easier and local connections stronger.
What You’ll Do
Create useful local content: Write seasonal activity guides, local attraction roundups, family outing ideas, and other practical resources.
Research the details: Find relevant activities, businesses, and community resources, and verify information using reliable, current sources.
Make planning easier for families: Include accurate dates, locations, admission details, age recommendations, and other information relevant to each assignment.
Check your work: Confirm that links work, facts are accurate, and submitted copy is polished and ready for editorial review.
Follow assignment guidelines: Write to the provided brief, audience, format, and publication voice, and incorporate editorial feedback.
Meet agreed-upon deadlines: Manage your assignments independently, communicate promptly, and flag questions or potential delays early.
Most opportunities will focus on DFW, with additional assignments supporting our other markets as needed.
Who We’re Looking For
You’re a dependable writer who enjoys local research and knows how to turn a collection of details into something helpful and easy to read. You’re comfortable writing original copy from scratch and understand that accuracy and follow-through matter just as much as a great opening line.
You also:
Live in the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex and are familiar with the area
Have strong writing, copywriting, grammar, and proofreading skills
Can write in a warm, conversational voice while keeping information clear and organized
Are comfortable researching beyond your own experiences and verifying what you find
Work independently and consistently meet deadlines
Communicate clearly and professionally
Welcome feedback and make revisions thoughtfully
Are familiar with Google Workspace and willing to learn our systems
Have your own computer and reliable internet access
Experience writing local guides, digital articles, family resources, or website copy is a plus. Strong writing samples, attention to detail, and reliability matter most.
Our AI Writing Policy
All submitted content must be original and written by you. We do not accept AI-generated articles or copy.
AI tools may be used for brainstorming ideas or checking grammar in content you have already written. They may not be used to write or rewrite your submissions.
You are responsible for researching, verifying, and writing every assignment. This role requires someone who is confident creating original content without relying on AI to do the writing.
Time Commitment & Compensation
This opportunity is entirely project-based. There are no set weekly hours, monthly minimums, or guaranteed assignments. Availability will vary based on editorial needs, and some months may have no assignments.
You can accept projects based on your availability. Once you accept an assignment, you’re expected to meet the agreed-upon deadline and complete any revisions included in the project scope.
Compensation is paid per assignment, with the scope, deadline, and rate shared before you accept each project. You’ll have flexibility to manage your own writing schedule around those commitments. Article assignment compensation starts at $75 per article.
